June 12, 2010 - Shane Larkin named 1st Team All-State. It was just a formality because Shane Larkin already was named the Class 6A player of the year runner-up last month, but it became official on Thursday as Panther junior guard Shane Larkin was named to Florida's Class 6A 1st Team All-State squad. Shane becomes the 4th Panther to be named 1st Team All-State. Damien Wilkins (Georgia), Jason Rich (Florida State), and Chris Warren (Ole Miss) are the other Panthers that were named 1st Team All-State. Here's the entire 1st Team - Shane Larkin (Dr. Phillips), Austin Rivers (Winter Park), Angel Rodriquez (Dr. Krop), Charles Hankerson Jr. (Coral Reef), and Kyle Marshall (Flanagan). Congrats to Shane on the huge accomplishment! The 'Panther Nation' is very proud of you.

May 19, 2010 - Chris Warren inducted into the Dr. Phillips Athletic Hall of Fame; Pat Ryan wins principal's award at the 11th annual Dr. Phillips Athletic Awards Ceremony. Congratulations to 2007 DP alumn, and current Ole Miss Rebel basketball star Chris Warren for joining the very prestigious group of student-athletes who are in the Dr. Phillips athletic hall of fame. Chris was inducted at the DP athletic awards ceremony on Wednesday. Chris Warren left DP with an amazing 20 basketball records. He led DP to the 2007 state championship game where he scored 38 points in an overtime loss to Ely. While at Ole Miss Chris has established himself as one of the best players in the SEC and is re-writing the Ole Miss record book just as he did the DP record book. Panther senior guard Pat Ryan was honored with the Principal's Award which recognizes athletic accomplishments, character, integrity, discipline, and work ethic. Congrats to Pat Ryan on the prestigious award and congrats to Chris Warren for always representing the Dr. Phillips basketball program so well over the last seven years.

March 25, 2010 - Shane Larkin named to the 1st Team All-Central Florida squad. The postseason honors keep streaming in for Dr. Phillips junior guard Shane Larkin. Today the Orlando Sentinel released their All-Central Florida teams which includes all high schools, public and private, from Orange, Seminole, Volusia, Osceola, Lake, and Sumter counties. Not surprisingly Shane Larkin made the 1st Team. Panther seniors Pat Ryan and Damani Cade were honored as Honorable Mention selections to the prestigious squad. Here is the team: 1st Team All Central Florida: Austin Rivers (Winter Park, Jr., Florida), James Bell (Montverde, Sr., Villanova), Cady Lalanne (Oak Ridge, Sr., Georgia), Shane Larkin (Dr. Phillips, Jr., undecided), Kendrick Perry (Edgewater, Sr., Youngstown State), and Brenton Williams (Osceola, Sr., undecided). 2nd Team All Central Florida: Robert Brown (East Ridge, Jr., Virginia Tech), Luis Jacobo (Winter Springs, Sr., Stetson), Christian Jones (Lake Howell, Sr., Florida State football), Jamail Jones (Montverde, Sr., Marquette), and Robert Lovaglio (Winter Park, Sr., undecided). Honorable Mention: Patrick Ryan (Dr. Phillips) and Damani Cade (Dr. Phillips) were among the selections. Congratulations to Shane, Pat, and Damani on the honor. Last week Larkin was named the Class 6A Player of the Year runner-up and it's just a matter of time until he will be named 1st Team All-State joining fellow Panthers Damien Wilkins (Georgia /N.C. State / Seattle Supersonics), Jason Rich (Florida State), and Chris Warren (Ole Miss - SEC's 3rd leading scorer this year) as 1st Team All State selections.

March 21, 2010 - Shane Larkin finishes as the Class 6A Player of the Year runner-up. The Florida Dairy Farmers released their boys basketball players of the year in Florida's six classifications today. The honor is voted on by a state wide panel of media and coaches. Dr. Phillips' junior guard Shane Larkin finished 2nd in the voting for the Class 6A player of the year behind Austin Rivers of Winter Park. Congratulations to Shane for being named the second best player in the state in Class 6A. Shane joins Chris Warren who also finished as the runner up for Class 6A player of the year honors in 2007 behind Kenny Boynton (Ely HS/Florida). Your 1st Team All-State Selection will be upcoming soon. The 'Panther Nation' is very proud of you.

March 13, 2010 - Dr. Phillips finishes #8 in Breakdown's Final All-Classes Rankings. Florida's Breakdown magazine just released their 2009-10 final state rankings which is inclusive of all high schools in Florida - private, public, independent, etc... The Panthers finished the season ranked 8th in their poll. Last season the Panthers finished ranked #14. Dr. Phillips is one of just six high schools in the entire state that were ranked in the top 15 both last season and this season (Dr. Phillips, Arlington Country Day, Dwyer, Boyd Anderson, Ely, and Orlando Christian Prep). It's yet another indicator of Dr. Phillips' consistency in their program. The Panthers hold the current state record with 17 consecutive 20+ win seasons. Here are the top 15 in Breakdown's Poll for both this season and last season.
2009-10 Final Top 15 - 1. Winter Park; 2. Montverde; 3. Providence; 4. Rickards; 5. Winter Springs; 6. Orlando Christian Prep; 7. Arlington Country Day; 8. Dr. Phillips; 9. Dr. Krop; 10. Bartow; 11. Dwyer; 12. Ely; 13. Sagemont; 14. Boyd Anderson; 15. Northeast.
2008-09 Final Top 15 - 1. Coral Reef; 2. Olympia; 3. Orlando Christian Prep; 4. Arlington Country Day; 5. Santaluces; 6. Ely; 7. Boyd Anderson; 8. Florida Air Academy; 9. Gainesville; 10. Clearwater; 11. Dillard; 12. Pine Crest; 13. American Heritage; 14. Dr. Phillips; 15. Dwyer.
March 9, 2010 - Shane Larkin and Pat Ryan earn 1st Team All-Metro honors. Congratulations to Panther junior guard Shane Larkin and Panther senior guard Pat Ryan who were both honored today as 1st Team All-Metro Conference selections. The team was selected by all of the head coaches in the Metro Conference who have the best take on who the best players are. It's a tremendous honor for both of these fine young men. Congrats to Pat and Shane. Below are the entire teams:
1st Team All Metro West - Shane Larkin, Jr., Dr. Phillips; Pat Ryan, Sr., Dr. Phillips; Kendrick Perry, Sr., Edgewater; Dewayne Gallimore, Jr., West Orange; and Drekalo Clayton, Fr., Evans

March 6, 2010 - Winter Park 76 - Dr. Phillips 57. The Panthers fall to the Wildcats in the 6A State Championship Game. The Panthers amazing 2009-10 basketball season came to an end as Dr. Phillips could not overcome Winter Park and fell to the Wildcats 57-76 in the Class 6A state championship Game. DP battled their hearts out but could not pull off their second consecutive upset as Winter Park, ranked #15 in the nation in the USA Today and #1 in the final 6A poll, controlled the second half on their way to the win. Dr. Phillips trailed 9-0 early but didn't get rattled and battled their way all the way back to trail by just two points at halftime (24-26). DP was feeling pretty good at the half trailing by just two as Shane Larkin had to sit the final three minutes with three fouls. Unfortunately for the Panthers Winter Park started the third quarter on fire making their first six shots of the quarter and extending their lead. The Panthers once again battled back and were trailing by just nine at the end of the third quarter (41-50), but DP could get no closer as the Wildcats took advantage of some uncharacteristic Panther turnovers and extended the lead to the 76-57 final margin. Dr. Phillips was led by Shane Larkin who scored 15 points despite playing in foul trouble most of the game. Shane also added 5 rebounds for the game. Senior Damani Cade, participating in his second state championship game, finished with 13 points, 3 steals, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds. Junior Keenan Green played his best game as a Panther in the state championship game scoring a career high 10 points and grabbing 4 rebounds. Senior Pat Ryan had 7 points, a team high 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Kerby Lubin and Matt Lohr added 3 points each and Roderick Lawrence, Chris Thomas, and Zach Pindar each scored 2 points to round out the Panther scoring. Dr. Phillips finishes the season with a 27-6 record. The Panthers won everything you can win minus the big prize - DP won their 9th Metro Championship, their 8th District Championship, their 5th Regional Championship, and their 2nd State Runner-Up finish! It's a great season by any account! Congratulations to the entire team on your wonderful season especially the seniors - Patrick Ryan, Damani Cade, Chris Thomas, and Matt Lohr on your role of continuing the tradition of excellence that the Dr. Phillips program is known for. Congratulations to Winter Park. They were the better team, but this DP team will go down as one of the greatest in school history. The Panther coaching staff and fans would like to thank the entire Panther team for all of the life-long memories they created for all of us in this fantastic season.

March 5, 2010 - Dr. Phillips 50 - Dr. Krop 42. Dr. Phillips advances to the Class 6A State Championship game with the big win over Dr. Krop! The Dr. Phillips boys basketball team entered into the Class 6A state semifinal game against Miami Dr. Krop as the underdog in most peoples eyes as Dr. Krop had defeated Dr. Phillips earlier this season. No ones minds were changed when Krop jumped out to an early 10-2 lead in the first quarter, but someone forgot to tell the 11 Panther players that they weren't supposed to win as they fought, battled, clawed and struggled their way back into the game and eventually won the game 50-42, taking Dr. Phillips to their second state championship game in school history and the second in the last four years with the big 50-42 win over Dr. Krop. The Panthers kept their composure after falling behind early and came back to take a one point lead to halftime (20-19). Action was tight the entire third quarter, but the Panthers managed to extend their lead to 34-30 after three. Krop came back in the fourth and took a 37-36 lead, but Dr. Phillips' defense was the difference on this night swarming the much bigger Krop front line and contesting every Krop perimeter shot. Here's the key statistic to show how well the Panthers executed their defensive game plan. Krop had averaged 73 points per game going into the game and they finished this one 31 points below their average! Great defense Panthers! The game was still in doubt with 33 seconds left when Panther junior Keenan Green grabbed an offensive rebound off of a Panther missed free throw and took it to the rim hard making the basket and drawing the Krop foul as well! Game over - the Panthers advance on to the 6A State Championship Game! The Panthers were led by Shane Larkin and Pat Ryan who both scored 15 points in the effort. Both had 2 threes that were huge as well as some drives into the paint for Panther scores. Damani Cade and Kerby Lubin added 7 points. Keenan Green finished with 6 points. With the win the Panthers improve to 27-5 on the season and advance to the Class 6A State Championship Game on Saturday night where they will take on the Winter Park Wildcats. Winter Park is currently ranked #15 in the nation in the USA Today and #1 in Class 6A, so the Panthers will have their hands full but don't count out the Panthers in this game. They proved tonight that they can beat the supposed favorites in a game. Great job Panthers. Congrats on advancing to DP's second state title game in school history. Good luck against the Wildcats.
