Started every game last season as a junior.....Led the team shooting 43% from three....2nd leading returning scorer, rebounder, and assists man.....defends the opponents best perimeter player......2008-09 defensive team MVP.......had a great 2009 summer......a good shooter and a tough defender against guards and wings......a good penetrator and finishes well in the paint.......excellent court vision.....can knock down the open shot.....a mentally and physically tough competitor on the court.

Coach Long's comments on Patrick Ryan......"Pat is a pleasure to coach.  He has continually improved his game to the point where he is now being recruited and will play basketball in college.  Everything I've asked Pat to work on he has done.  After his sophomore year I told him he would have to be a knock-down shooter and he responded by leading the team shooting from three at 43%.  After his junior year I told him that if people are playing his shot that he will have to get in the paint and finish on drives and he has done that over the summer.  He can do it all from the guard position - drive each way, finish, make good decisions, lead a team.  We ask a lot of him defensively as well and he had responded and is now one of the better guards that I've had since I've been at DP."

One of just a handful of players at DP who has been on the varsity since their 9th grade seasons.......the only player left who was a member of DP's 2007 state championship game appearance.....Started several games his sophomore season and started every game his junior season......the Panthers most versatile player who plays both on the perimeter or inside depending on the lineup.......a physical player who can defend every position on the floor......has great court vision and an excellent passer......the Panthers most experienced player......shot an impressive 37% from behind the three point arch as a junior......will be a major contributor for the Panthers this season and is critical to the success of the team.

Coach Long's comments on Damani Cade......."Damani is by far our most experienced player.  He's seen just about everything.  We are going to be counting on Damani to lead us both on and off the floor.  Our younger players know that he's been where they are trying to go....and that is Lakeland.  Damani is physically one of the most talented players that I have coached.  He's one of the best passers from the middle of the floor that I have ever coached in 17 years.  He brings a dimension to our team that no one else can bring.  If Damani will play to his potential, he gives us a weapon that makes us very difficult to beat.  He makes our team very versatile because he's a tough cover.  A big man has a hard time guarding him on the perimeter because he shoots so well and guards have a tough time with him inside because he is big and physical.  Damani should be able to earn a college scholarship if he continues to progress how he has been.  Damani has the most impact this year on if we are going to be just good or if we are going to be great."

Played varsity last season as a sophomore.....started on the JV as a sophomore and was the leading rebounder and shot blocker.......provides the Panthers with a big physical presence inside both offensively and defensively.......played well over the summer......will be counted on for big minutes this season.

Coach Long's comments on Chris Thomas........"Chris gives us something that no other player on the team has.....a big, strong, physical, true inside post player.  He is the only guy in our rotation that gives us a true post presence.  We will be counting on Chris this year for rebounds and post defense on some of the bigger players in the Metro and our district.  If Chris can step up and play to his potential, which is enormous, we will be a difficult team to beat.  I need him to be aggressive night in and night out.  He's had a year on varsity to learn the ropes.  Now it's time for him to come out and show everyone what kind of player he can be."

Coach Long's comments on Shane Larkin......"Last year I said that Shane has the potential to become one of the best, if not the best, players that I have ever coached.  Well, this year I need to amend that statement.  Shane now IS one of the best players I've ever had the privilege of coaching.  I've coached four guards that were honored as 1st Team All-State (Melvin McCray and Orien Greene at Gainesville;  Jason Rich and Chris Warren at DP), two of which were Parade All-Americans (Greene and Rich), and Shane's game and skill set is equal to all of them.  Shane was phenomenal for us last year and has only gotten better over the summer.  He's the highest of high level Division I point guard.  He can do it all and do it well.  He's a pleasure to coach and a pleasure to watch as a fan.  He's an incredibly hard worker and very coachable.  I can't wait to see where he leads us the next two years."

Future Panther All-Star
#1 RYAN LONG

2'11" (and still growing!)     31 lbs
Class of 2026 - 21 months old
Guard

Bench Press Max - 5 lbs
Squat Max - 10 lbs

Dunking the ball at just ll months old at his home goal......90th percentile in height at birth and his first year checkup.......has excellent hops.....wore out his bouncy chair.....jumps on the furniture all the time......makes nearly all of his shots at home......has to be shooting at least 80% from the floor.....is amphibious - dunks with either hand......hasn't quite figured out how to dribble the ball yet but is working hard at it......has great foot speed and already a strong finisher......considering Duke, Carolina, and UCLA but has made it known he will drop Duke from his list if Coach K is not coaching when he signs his letter of intent.

Ryan's already practicing outside in the cold weather!

Coach Long's comments on Ryan Long......"Ryan's potential is unlimited.  He's been working on his game since birth so he's got a head start on most.  I'm pretty sure I've got a future Dirk Nowitski on my hands here....he's tall, can shoot from the outside and take it to the hole.  I'll bet my mortgage that he can take any 21 month old or younger in a game of one on one which would put him at the top of the national rankings for the Class of 2026.  BabyRivals and Baby Scout have him ranked as the #1 player in the country for 2026.  As long as he continues to develop and grow Ryan will soon be over 3 feet tall and after that....look out world!"

Ryan throws down another power slam!
