Coach Long's comments on Shane Larkin......"Last year I said that Shane has the potential to become one of the best, if not the best, players that I have ever coached.  Well, this year I need to amend that statement.  Shane now IS one of the best players I've ever had the privilege of coaching.  Shane has now joined four other guards that I have coached that were honored as 1st Team All-State selections (Melvin McCray and Orien Greene at Gainesville;  Jason Rich and Chris Warren at DP), two of which were Parade All-Americans (Greene and Rich), and Shane's game and skill set is equal to all of them.  Shane was phenomenal for us last year and has only gotten better over the summer.  He's the highest of high level Division I point guard.  He can do it all and do it well.  He's a pleasure to coach and a pleasure to watch as a fan.  He's an incredibly hard worker and very coachable.  I can't wait to see where he leads us."

Returning starter for the Panthers.......played varsity for DP as a 9th grader, played at West Oaks Academy as a 10th grader, and back to DP last season.......a very athletic combo guard.....one of the Panthers best defenders.....athletic finisher in transition......a great rebounder from the guard position......had a DP single season high 16 rebounds in a game last year......gained lots of valuable experience starting on a team that went all the way to the state championship game last season.....a good shooter who can also break down a defense on penetration and make the right decision......will be one of the better guards in Central Florida next season.

Coach Long's comments on Kerby Lubin........."We would not have had the season we had last year without Kerby.....no way we make the state title game without him.  His defense and rebounding in our playoff run were incredible, not to mention his scoring.  He had some game deciding steals and rebounds for us last year that were critical.  Kerby has continued to improve to the point where I have no hesitation in calling him one of the best guards in Central Florida.  I love Kerby's work ethic and his passion towards the game.  He's always looking for ways to get better.  His experience that he gained last year starting in big playoff games will pay dividends this season.  I'm expecting big things from Kerby this season."

Returning varsity starter from last season.......took over the starting role midway through the season.....played great in the Panthers playoff run to the state championship game......had the game deciding offensive rebound and basket in the state semifinal game against Dr. Krop that sent DP to the state title game.......a very good defender who is almost always asked to defend much bigger players......played varsity at West Orange as a sophomore before moving/transferring to DP.......very athletic wing who is a strong finisher in transition.....can play several positions on offense and can guard multiple positions on defense.

Coach Long's comments on Keenan Green........"Keenan played great for us during the second half of the season and was pivotal in our playoff run to the state title game.  He had some game changing plays in the playoffs that we desperately needed.  He uses his quickness well to guard bigger players.  His athleticism is key to our transition game and the younger players will be looking to Keenan for leadership this season.  His experience as a state title game starter should be great for us this season.  He's been in big games and played well in big games so I'm hoping for more of the same in his senior season."

Coach Long's comments on Roderick Lawrence.......
"Roderick has progressed more than probably any other player on the team over the summer.  His year of varsity experience last season was invaluable because now he knows all of our offensive and defensive systems, so he can let his athleticism take over.  He's gone from a role guy to someone who is seriously competing for a starting spot on the varsity.  He's versatile, athletic, and wants to get better and improve.  More importantly he is willing to put in the time and dedication needed to accomplish his goal of getting better every day.  I love his work ethic and enthusiasm to learn and get better.  Roderick will be a big part of our team's success this season.  He's a quality player and person."

ISAAC LANE

5'10"
Junior
Guard

Played varsity at DP as a freshman.....was ineligible as a sophomore but has worked very hard in the classroom to regain his eligibility......very talented combo guard......a very good penetrator in the halfcourt and decision maker in the full court......shoots the ball well......has all of the skill set required to be a very good point guard.....athletic and a good defensive player......will be a big contributor to the varsity this season.

Coach Long's comments on Issac Lane......
"I'm really proud of Ike (Isaac).  He has worked very hard in the classroom over the last year to regain his eligibility when the easier option would have been to quit.  He's shown me that basketball is important to him.  His talent has never been an issue.  Ike's one of just a handful of  players that I put on the varsity as a freshman at Dr. Phillips in nine years.  That's a testament to his talent on the court.  I really believe that Isaac will be a big part of our team's success this season.  He's a really talented basketball player and I like his passion for the game.  He's a tough cover for opponents because of his offensive skill set.  If you play up on him he's plenty quick enough to go by you, but if you play off him he's plenty talented enough to knock down the perimeter shot.  I'm looking forward to watching Ike progress as a player and a person throughout his last two seasons at DP."

JEFF TRUDEAU

6'2"     180 lbs
Junior
Forward

Played JV last season as a 10th grader......played summer varsity ball.....very good fundamentals......a good low post player and rebounder.....a good shooter for his position.....has 3 point range on his shot......had a great summer......will provide depth at the post position for the Panthers.

Coach Long's comments on Jeff Trudeau......"Jeff had an outstanding summer for us and is transitioning well to the varsity.  The thing I like about Jeff is his commitment to doing whatever is necessary to improve.  Jeff always finds a way to get the job done on the court.  He finds different ways to score and rebound against guys that are bigger and more athletic than he is and that's a testament to his abilities.  He's not a flashy player, but he produces out there on the court and that's the most important thing.  I look forward to working with Jeff and seeing some of his hard work paying off this season on the varsity level."

2010-11 SOPHOMORES

TYRIEFE BEARD

6'       160 lbs.
Sophomore
Guard

Played JV last season as a freshman........had a great summer......athletic wing.......a good finisher both in transition and in the half court.......a good athlete and defender.......can play multiple positions on offense and guard multiple positions on defense.

Coach Long's comments on Tyriefe Beard........"I love Tyriefe's work ethic.  He was in the gym every time we opened it this summer.  We started him on JV in the summer but he played his way onto the varsity.  He was simply too good to keep on JV.  I felt he definitely earned his way on the varsity.  Not very many sophomores make the varsity at Dr. Phillips, so Tyriefe making it is a testament to his basketball abilities.  I look forward to wrking with him over the next three years.  He has a lot of potential."

Future Panther All-Star
#1 RYAN LONG

3'1" (and still growing!)     37 lbs
Class of 2026 - 2 years old
Guard

Bench Press Max - 10 lbs
Squat Max - 15 lbs

Dunking the ball at just ll months old at his home goal......90th percentile in height at birth and his first year checkup.......has excellent hops.....wore out his bouncy chair.....jumps on the furniture all the time......makes nearly all of his shots at home......has to be shooting at least 80% from the floor.....is amphibious - dunks with either hand......hasn't quite figured out how to dribble the ball yet but is working hard at it......has great foot speed and already a strong finisher......considering Duke, Carolina, and UCLA but has made it known he will drop Duke from his list if Coach K is not coaching when he signs his letter of intent.

Ryan's already practicing outside in the cold weather!

Coach Long's comments on Ryan Long......"Ryan's potential is unlimited.  He's been working on his game since birth so he's got a head start on most.  I'm pretty sure I've got a future Dirk Nowitski on my hands here....he's tall, can shoot from the outside and take it to the hole.  I'll bet my mortgage that he can take any 2 year old or younger in a game of one on one which would put him at the top of the national rankings for the Class of 2026.  BabyRivals and Baby Scout have him ranked as the #1 player in the country for 2026.  As long as he continues to develop and grow Ryan will soon be over 3 feet tall and after that....look out world!"

Ryan throws down another two handed power slam!
