HEAD VARSITY BASKETBALL COACH -
ANTHONY LONG

During Anthony Long's eight seasons as the Panther's head basketball coach the program has continued it's tradition of excellence and success. Coach Long has guided the Panthers to two Class 6A State Championship Runner-Up Finishes (2007 & 2010), two Metro Conference Championships (2004 & 2010), four Metro Conference Runner-up finishes (2003, 2005, 2007, 2009), three district championships (2007, 2009, 2010), two regional championships (2007 & 2010), and the Great Florida Shootout Championship (2008). Coach Anthony Long has led the Panthers to a 184-48 record in his eight seasons - a winning percentage of 80%. Coach Long had taken his team to the state championship game 4 times in the last 11 years, winning two titles! He's done it playing against literally the nation's best competiton. Coach Long has taken his Panthers to the elite tournaments in the nation including the Iolani Prep Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Slam Dunk to the Beach in Lewes, Delaware, the Kingdom of the Sun (Ocala), the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament, and the Great Florida Shootout (Kissimmee). In those tournaments the Panthers have played some of the best high school programs in the country including the 2004 USA Today National Champions - Oak Hill Academy. Coach Long's 02-03 Panthers finished with a #9 final state ranking; his 03-04 squad finished with a #7 final state ranking, his 06-07 squad finished #6 in the state, his 07-08 squad finished #10 in the state, his 08-09 squad became the first Panther team in school history to finish the season ranked #1 in the state, and his 09-10 team finished ranked #3 in the final rankings. Coach Long has a career record of 332-117 (.739) in his fifteen seasons averaging 22 wins a season for his career. Coach Long took his 2006-07 Panthers and his 2009-10 Panthers all the way to the Class 6A State Championship game. His 2007 team set the all time DP record for most consecutive wins (17), highest scoring average (79.6). For his efforts Long was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 6A Coach of the Year in 2007. Long's 2008-09 Panther squad became his first Panther team to crack into the national rankings topping out at #42 in the ESPN/Rise 'Fab 50' Poll. Anthony Long's state series playoff record (those games after the district tournament) is an incredible 19-5 throughout his career. Dr. Phillips has only lost seven home games in Long's eight years at the helm.
Anthony Long came to Dr. Phillips after an incredible run at Gainesville High School as their head basketball coach. In his seven year stretch at Gainesville High School, Long directed the Hurricanes to two Class 5A state championships, two final national rankings, two regional championships, three district championships, and five city championships. Long guided GHS to an incredible stretch of 47 consecutive wins against Florida opponents and 10 consecutive playoff victories. Long's 2000 Hurricanes finished #8 in the nation with a 33-2 record. GHS finished #1 in Florida in the final all class poll in both 1999 and 2000.
In just fifteen seasons as a varsity coach, Anthony Long has coached an amazing eight different players to a total of twelve different All-State selections including five different players to the 1st team All-State squad (Melvin McCray, Orien Greene, Jerald Fields, Jason Rich and Chris Warren). Nineteen different players have earned full basketball scholarships in Long's fourteen seasons as a head coach (12 players at DP in seven sesons). Anthony Long has had at least one player named All-State in nine of the last twelve seasons. Coach Long has been recognized with several different "Coach of the Year" honors including the Florida Dairy Farmers Overall Coach of the Year (All-Classes) in 2000 and the 6A Coach of the Year award in 2007. Long's teams have finished the season ranked in the top 10 in the Florida Sportswriters Association class polls in twelve of his fifteen seasons as a varsity coach.
Championships and nothing less are the expectation and goal at Dr. Phillips. The 2006-07 Panthers and the 2009-10 Panthers made it all the way to the state championship game, but there is still unfinished business for the 2010-11 Panther squad to take care of.

VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH -
JASON LEE

Jason Lee enters his eighth season as the Dr. Phillips varsity assistant coach. His dedication and commitment to improving the Panther players on the court and in the weightroom has been instrumental in Dr. Phillips' success. Coach Lee joined the Panther staff last season after coaching at Gainesville's P.K. Yonge High School the previous two seasons. Olympia head coach and former P.K. Yonge head coach Mark Griseck has credited Coach Lee with much of P.K. Yonge's success during Lee's time in Gainesville which included a trip to the Class 2A final four in Lakeland in 2001.
